After playing with Mike for several months, I have much to say. He’s a great DM who has created a welcoming community for his players. He’s readily available outside of sessions to discuss anything, and a very chill guy. He’s also very open to run and experiment with new systems based on what the community are looking for which is great! In his games, he is great with embodying the characters and creating tension. For example, in our current mission we’re investigating a tense political murder, exploring different avenues, and learning about what could have led to this. As we learn vital new information the air would stir from a pin drop! One thing I’ve always wanted from TTRPGs is to feel the stakes are high, that they matter. Most other GMs won’t use a system to be as deadly as intended and have character death as a true risk, but not Mike! The threat of characters dying is very real and I freaking love that. Who doesn’t want to be able to create a vitally important character to a team, to have a death rattle, final words, echoed in the story to live on in a shared narrative.
I'm new to Lancer but after just three sessions I'm in love with it. The character development can be divorced from your mech build style and setup. The battles are crunchy enough to be interesting without being overwhelming. As a player I think it's amazing. I'm already waiting for my copy of the physical corebook to try and run it myself in the near future.
Games with Jordi are super fun - it's also a really great way to revitalise learning Spanish for me. I had many many years ago reached an advanced level but then didn't use it for 10+ years and it faded away. He's a very supportive GM and I always look forward to the games. I recommend him!
Tyler's a chill guy, helped me set up in a super fast way to try out a new-for-me system. Unfortunately I didn't gel to the system itself but Tyler clearly puts out a lot of effort with cool maps, music, and does a good job of gently urging players in the moments to think about their characters from a narrative perspective :)
